But hey, at least ONE bright spot at the end of the tunnel: having a nap in the warm haycock where the farmer can't find her. Where the farmer can't find her?? Stupid girl! OF COURSE he finds her, when in the late afternoon he realizes that his poor cows are starving! Julia well expected that life on a farm is rough, but the shocking fact that corporal punishment is still common practice in the countryside never same to her mind! That's something she definitely did NOT expect.
